Hurrah! I am halfway back and getting better every day.
Nothing went according to plan. My complications developed complications. I’ve been in the back of an ambulance for the first time in my life and I have discovered the highs and highs of very strong painkilling drugs.
I am humbled by the job that NHS nurses and doctors do, and I am in awe that they can be so very kind under such extreme pressure.
As for A&E…….. I am ashamed to live in a country where hospitals, staffed by such willing and expert people, are so under resourced and badly managed.
But the good news is that I know how to fix it overnight. I want David and Samantha Cameron and Nick and Miriam Clegg and their families, to have no choice but to seek urgent care via my local A&E. That would be the one where patients are standing or lying on dirty floors because there aren’t enough chairs available, and where ambulances are queuing on the ramp outside emergency admissions because there is no space inside.
